The challenge

The original bath had tile set directly over drywall in the wet area. The substrate was already failing, and humidity meant any shortcut would rot again within a year.

What was hiding behind the tile

The previous remodel skipped waterproofing entirely. Tile had been glued to green board in the shower, the substrate was soft, and mold had started behind it. In Tampa’s humidity, that is a countdown, not a maybe.

What we did

We tore the wet area back to studs, installed a proper membrane on every wall, and built a curbless entry with correct slope to the drain. Ventilation was sized to the room volume so moisture actually leaves the assembly between showers.

The result

A bathroom built to last a decade of daily use in a humid climate, finished in four weeks at $28,000. The waterproofing is the part you will never see, and never have to think about.
